Life in the 19th Century/Science Projects

Here are several science hands-on activities for kids you can do at school, at the museum, or home.
One involves homemade oil lamps.  The Potts Family used oil lamps to light their home.

The Potts Family also made its own soap.  The steps don't seem to hard, and the ingredients aren't hard to find, but it seems like the mixture is pretty caustic, so I would not try this with small children.
