H.6.4.10 Examine artifacts relating to events in Arkansas history.
Gather several artifacts: old irons, washboards, railroad spikes, pulleys, lanterns, etc. Have students guess their uses.
The Potts Barn is the perfect place for this project. Have students select one artifact that they aren't sure what it is. Take a digital photo of it. Note any inscriptions, patent numbers or dates. Then make guesses as to its uses. Last, have students research by asking people, researching the Internet or books for any information regarding the artifact.
Present the information to the class.
